Julieta Carrasquilla

Julieta is a multidisciplinary visual artist, bilingual, interior designer, photographer, performer, and artist. She uses various mediums like painting, drawing, textiles, photography, documentaries, print media, installation, performance, digital media, and more to create art. She aims to develop the idea of personal, collective trauma, and loss. Her work has brought her to the belief in healing. It also helped her to acknowledge self-development, desire, and a sense of compassion.
Artist's Statement:
My work is a constant search for a way to represent ideas or thoughts about my own life and the world we live in. This is why I don’t restrict myself to one medium, style, or concept. Inspiration and ideas are in constant evolution. Experiences and awareness are powerful for those changes as well. Each piece I create is an extension from the past where I’ve come from, and what I’ve learned, as well as a glimpse into the future I am heading toward.
With this series of photomontage and collages, my main goal is what I call a "continuum of voices" which documents human connections, conversations, and relationships as they transform over time. These collages are an inspiration from my foundation's course at Antioch where we had a voice and a safe space to express ourselves. During this time, I identified with these women and their brave stories. I am expressing my immediate emotions freely to convey them in my work. Their words have universal and emotional intentions, which led me to incorporate them into my art. In working on each piece at a time, documenting and recording my experiences, memory, and emotional responses to the subject suggests their meaning - sometimes hidden - deepens over time.
